In October 2025, Caption by Hyatt Kabutocho Tokyo opened its doors in Kabutocho. Based on the concept of “connecting people with people, and people with the city,” the hotel incorporates curated design elements throughout that intentionally reflect its relationship with the surrounding neighborhood.

The interior features a collection of site-specific artworks by four different artists and artist groups: MOTAS., Adrian Hogan, Shinjiro Tanaka, and Straft. These pieces allow guests to experience the rich layers of Kabutocho, a district with a deep history as Japan’s financial hub, through a contemporary creative lens.
In this article, we introduce the artworks you can encounter at Caption by Hyatt Kabutocho Tokyo and the talented creators behind them.

MOTAS.

Spanning the guest rooms and community lounge are vibrant, bold artworks by MOTAS., incorporating motifs inspired by the Kabutocho area. Their designs offer a sense of depth that provides a fresh perspective and new discoveries with every visit.

About the artist:
Formed in 2012, MOTAS. is an art unit consisting of BOYA and TOMO. By layering BOYA’s line drawings with TOMO’s intuitive sense of color, they produce a wide range of work, from canvas paintings to large-scale murals. Their style is characterized by a creative process that transcends the traditional boundaries of storytelling and regionality.

Adrian Hogan

Adrian Hogan’s illustrations, rendered with a light and warm touch, depict the local scenery and the daily rhythms of the people who live and work here. His work can be found in guest room bathrooms, the first-floor gathering space, and the elevator halls. These pieces delicately capture the pulse of Kabutocho, evoking a sense of nostalgia in those who view them.

About the artist:
Originally from Melbourne, Australia, and now based in Tokyo, illustrator Adrian Hogan has carried a sketchbook with him everywhere since he was a teen, capturing everyday life with a natural, effortless style. Today, working from Tokyo, he is active across a wide range of fields, including magazines, advertising, books, murals, and storyboards.

The guest room headboards and bathrooms feature the work of MOTAS. and Adrian Hogan, respectively. While incorporating iconic Kabutocho motifs, these pieces capture the essence of the neighborhood, reflecting its current state of transformation and a hopeful vision for the future.

SHINJIRO TANAKA

In the fitness center, a striking mural uses organic lines to represent the flow of finance and the rhythm of biological cells, symbolizing circulation and energy. The art lends a sense of power to the space by overlapping urban dynamism with the essence of life itself.

About the artist:
Tokyo-based multimedia artist Shinjiro Tanaka works across the boundaries of analog and digital media. Exploring themes of modernity, universality, and human connection, he creates works in which vision and body, space and time intersect.

Straft

The suite rooms feature an installation by Straft that treats the Kabutocho district as a “NEST.” The piece is a fusion of metal and straw (from rice), a material deeply rooted in Japanese tradition.

About the artist:
Straft is a craft unit consisting of Tokyo-based creators Tamaki Ishii and Kazuma Yamagami. Working primarily with traditional Japanese rice straw, they create pieces that highlight the inherent beauty of nature. Through various mediums, including installations and furniture, they explore harmony with the natural world.
